about

Ben Williams writes: "This song addresses the topic of addiction. While addiction is something that people of all cultures struggle with, the unique stresses of being a Black male pose very specific issues. After all, most people find themselves in addiction (be it drugs, alcohol, abusive relationships, etc) as a means to cope with stress. I made the analogy of addiction to being in a dysfunctional relationship and how hard it is to get out, even in knowing how unhealthy it is, because it satisfies the basic human need of feeling loved (or experiencing something that resembles love)."

lyrics

Self medication
It’s my motivation
Feels like meditation

It’s too late, it’s too late, it’s too late for me
It’s too late for me
And I know it feels good

In my situation
There’s no way unless you make one
But there’s so much temptation

It’s too late, it’s too late, it’s too late for me
It’s too late for me
And I know it takes two, baby

Constantly waiting
And getting impatient
You’re my foundation

It’s too late, too late, too late for me
It’s too late for me

So faded
High and I’m staying
It feels like I’m amazing

Will I ever leave you?

You take me high
You take me away
From all the pain and suffering
I feel everyday

They say you’re no good for me
And I know that too
But I don’t know other way
I don’t know what to do

The world is so cold without you
You take me above the clouds
Closer to the sun
You make it feel it better

Why is that we do this dance that we do?
But I know it takes two
To keep this thing going
Between me and you
It’s too late

I want you for all the wrong reasons
Why didn’t you stay away
You know you’re no good for me
You know I want you to stay
